California Hospitals - A Comparison of the Top 3 (INFOGRAPHIC)

By Alyssa Chan on February 20th, 2014

We recently decided to take a deep look at three of the largest and arguably most renown California Hospitals  — [UCSF Medical Center](http://www.ucsfhealth.org/) in San Francisco, [Stanford Hospital](http://stanfordhospital.org/) in Stanford and [El Camino Hospital](http://www.elcaminohospital.org/) in Mountain View. Continuing with our infographic trend, we have simplified some key facts using the comparison tool on [medicare.gov](http://medicare.gov/hospitalcompare/compare.html?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1#cmprTab=0&cmprID=050454,050441,050308&dist=100&lat=37.7749295&lng=-122.4194155&loc=SAN FRANCISCO, CA&type=0). Surveys were taken for patients' experience at each California hospital as results are also mapped against the California average for all reporting hospitals and the National average for all reporting hospitals.

Why Low Income Seniors Fail to Get Help Paying for Health Care

Why Low Income Seniors Fail to Get Help Paying for Health Care

By Trudy Lieberman on February 12th, 2014

A couple weeks ago, the Medicare Rights Center, a well-known New York-based advocacy group, released [a report card showing how well seniors are faring with Medicare](http://www.medicarerights.org/policy/priorities/2012-medicare-trends/). The report is a good barometer of the troubles beneficiaries face when navigating Medicare's very complicated system for getting health care. One particularly compelling finding popped out: 21 percent of the 14,000 callers to the Center's national help line in 2012 had trouble covering the cost sharing that Medicare requires. This means that almost a fourth of seniors struggle with paying the deductibles for Part B – doctor and outpatient services – and for Part D, the drug benefit.

Long-Term Caregivers (INFOGRAPHIC)

By Alyssa Chan on January 24th, 2014

Given tremendous feedback and response from our recent Infographic series we decided to put out one more this week about long-term caregivers.  We have found that a picture is truly worth a thousand words and tells a much needed story - especially when it comes to senior care.   The average volunteered hours for an unpaid caregiver is equivalent to working a 20 hour a week part-time job for five years. These long-term caregivers are dedicating their time to help care for a friend, family member or even an acquaintance.

The Cost of Senior Living (INFOGRAPHIC)

By Alyssa Chan on January 16th, 2014

As we become older, there is more demand for help in our daily lives. However, with the upcoming baby boomer population, space at senior care homes may become limited. In addition, the cost of senior living options have a substantial increase annually. The cost of senior living varies with the type of residence, apartment size, and types of services needed. The basic rate may cover all services or there may be additional charges for special services. We have simplified the finances and defined various housing options available below in an infographic of our own.

Senior Care - A Detailed Look

Senior Care - A Detailed Look

By Alyssa Chan on December 18th, 2013

")Searching for Senior Care for yourself or a loved one can be a very difficult task and more often than not is during a difficult period of time.  It is extremely important to find the perfect fit with comfort, care and most importantly safety in mind. That said, it is critical to consider all the options that are available as well as the specific level of care and services they provide. Below you will find a graphic that helps visualize all the key care types available.  As you move from the bottom of the graphic to the top the level of care increases.  Non medical home care provides the most basic form of care services in the comfort of ones home.  On the other side of the spectrum is a hospital which provides the highest level of services and care for a loved one.
